MEN and WOMEN in RELATIONSHIP or MARRIAGE: Respect is the key to a good relationship. Respect each others right to feel, think and do what ever each of you feels the need to. Then use communication to understand the why of the feelings, thoughts and action. When each person feels free to be themselves and respected for it in the relationship, they will treasure the relationship.

Understanding that respect is the key to a good relationship is great advice that has truly hit home with me. It’s not always just about what you want/need all the time, if you want a relationship and love/care for the other person, then respect for their feelings and point of view is essential.

I think that many people forget about the importance of this sort of respect over time in their relationships, leading to further problems.

Respect in the manner you have described is different than respecting them as a person. You must also be able to respect them as a person and if that is lost, and the communication skills are poor, you’re in trouble!

Cindy absolutely. Respect as a person, and respect for their right to choose for themselves. Both are critical!
